9to5, Laura Myer & the Economy

October 31, 2008 in opinion, personal | No comments

It seems that from looking at the stats on this blog, truth about enzyte that I get alot of hits from search engines looking up Laura Myer. This week has been no exception given that she appeared as an interviewee in the 9to5 local corporate freebie magazine that is distributed around the inner city here in Sydney.

I picked up a copy and the story appears under the headline on the front cover of ‘Licence to Thrill: The Secret Life of a Call Girl’.

Now I wouldn’t have had much of a passing interest in Laura, unless she hadn’t waded into the pagan scene some months ago.

Beltaine

I’ve been fairly quiet on this blog for good reason. I’ve recently wrapped up my contribution to the very successful Beltaine08 and we had a brilliant time. Thanks to everyone else for helping us stage such a fun, vibrant and virutally hassle free event. And being the first one we’ve done as an organising group, I was really happy with everyone’s efforts.

Personally, I’ve been fairly ‘quiet’ spiritually, apart from some private spellwork I’ve done, it’s been quiet and all is well with the world.

Summer is shaping up to be a busy period in the Sydney pagan community with quite a few events in the works and I’m really looking forward to attending more than a few.

Stay tuned for more event reviews and reports in future, including more photographs.
More on Nudity

One question which keeps repeating itself in my mind after discussions on why skyclad (naked) images of pretty, lithe, young women have been used in recent advertisements for pagan workshops is:

‘are images of nudity being used to promote witchcraft, or is it the practise of witchcraft being used to promote nudity?’

NPWS Annual Pass

September 29, 2008 in Uncategorized | No comments

Given the amount of bushwalking I’ve done this year, I think I will consider buying an annual pass for NSW National Parks. Click here for more info.

So far, I’ve visited Blue Mountains NP (several times), Morton NP at Bundanoon a few times to do walks and see Fitzroy Falls, Budderoo to see the Minnamurra Rainforest, a few visits to Ku-ring-gai & Lane Cove NP a few times as well and with each visit, I’m paying for parking and and often scrabbling for coin change as some parks only issue tickets via a machine thingy.

Do you do alot of bushwalking? I’d love to hear some of your fav spots on NSW.
Pushing Water Uphill

I’ve had a recent lesson in flexibility and getting creative.

As I’ve been spending a fair amount of time looking through a camera lens snapping away my world and the entire process, whilst seems superficial and consumed with the visual, it’s a cover for some deeper ‘work’ that has been going on with me. The creative process is teaching me what I value, from what I like to look at, to how I like to work to produce an image and bizarrely, what I value out of relationships and friendships. I’m critiquing more than just the visual, or perhaps I’m critiquing the superficial visual veneer of some of my friendships at the moment.

Some of my nearest and dearest old friendships have been struggling for a while to stay alive, and really, they are just changing shape naturally. I’ve been resistant to the changes that are happening regardless (whether I like it or not) and something clicked late last week. Just let it flow or indeed, let them go.

I’m not going to abandon these friendships as such, but I am going to stop trying to stubbornly push water uphill. I need to let nature take its course and to stop being so upset with the natural flow of human relationships.

Some connections are short, medium or long term. I guess I got the medium and long term confused.

C’est la vie.
Declining interest

September 8, 2008 in Events | No comments

I’ve got some news to share.

After approx 6mths, from March earlier this year to September, the Penrith Pagan Social Dinner is likely to die a quick and lonely death. Why? Lack of interest.

I’m the main organiser and in August, I wasn’t able to make it along. I put a call out to see if anyone else was keen to do the meet & greet for me and for whatever reason, a heap of other people couldn’t make it either. So we cancelled the August meet. We continued on as normal in September and apart from myself, only one other person rocked up, which was a friend of mine and because I asked him to meet me there. I’m glad he came along to keep me company :-)

So I’ve made an announcement letting people know that if we get an equal show of disinterest, I won’t be organising anymore Penrith Pagan Social Dinners. Am I upset about this? Nah. Like most things, the community has its own cycles and it waxes and wanes in its level of interest with face to face meetups.

Thank You

I haven’t been to many pagan events lately, so I’ve little to post by the way of reviews.

Last week, I spent some time in QLD on a work conference and I also had the chance to catch up with some old pagan friends over the weekend in Coolum & Eumundi.

It got me thinking, a lot of my solid pagan friendships were formed very early on in my explorations of the wider pagan community and a few have lasted the distance over the last 10-12yrs. I now look at younger groups like Ostarian Grove who are doing some brilliant work, contributing to the overall community here in Sydney and I hope their friendships and coven bonds will grow with them over time as my connections have.

So to all of my dear, long term pagan friends - I look forward to many more years of companionship & growth. Thank you for the last dozen or so years and for helping me grow, change and for sharing my journey along the way.

I’m really excited to be a part of the organising crew for this fantastic event we’ve got planned for October.

We’re finalising the entertainment at the moment and I’m jsut about bursting to announce which popular Sydney Celtic Folk band we’ve booked, but until we hear back from them againa nd they update their gig guide as well, I’ll leave it a secret.

Anyway - go and check out the website for all further updates!
